Seeking to, in the words of House Republican Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia, urge President Obama “…to speak out on behalf of the Iranian people and their quest for freedom and human rights” the House and Senate have passed Republican backed resolutions condemning Tehran’s crackdown on protestors. While not committing the U.S. to any specific actions the resolutions reportedly include statements condemning “the ongoing violence” by the Iranian government toward demonstrators as well as that government’s attempts at “suppression of independent electronic communications through interference with the Internet and Cell Phones.” … Critics of the President include his response as part of a trend they believe may have serious consequences for the U.S. in the future. Noting examples such as Hillary Clinton’s reluctance …

This week, in what some may describe as déjà-vu, once again Senator McCain and President Obama have painted two different pictures – this time concerning the Iranian election, accusations of fraud and the Iranian government’s attempted crack down on protestors. Senator McCain, see video below, on NBC’s Today Show explained yesterday what he felt the U.S. reaction should have been and why. President Obama, two videos below, after a much criticized delay spoke to reporters on Monday. His comments in comparison to several of the United State’s Western Allies (click here for a related article) have been described ‘playing it safe’ and carefully crafted not to offend Ahmadinejad should he remain in power…

As President Obama pushes forward with “reforming” the American medical system, the estimated costs for those reforms are leaving some in Congress to begin to wonder where the money will come from. One potential source of funding is through the taxation of medical benefits provided by employers. During President Obama’s campaign he was staunchly against this option and criticized Senator McCain’s support for it. However, according sources, as the costs increase and other options disappear, Mr. Obama may be warming up to it. With this in mind, we thought today might be a good opportunity to take a look at the potential impact of taxing employer health care benefits to pay for a government ran health care system.
To do this, we will use the following…

On Thursday an obviously frustrated Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (CA-D), accused the CIA of misleading Congress concerning the use of water-boarding and other ‘Enhanced Interrogation Techniciques’ on terrorist suspects. “…Yes I am saying the CIA was misleading the Congress…”…However, despite the Speaker’s accusations, evidence that the Speaker was advised continues to mount. In December…”The briefer was specifically asked if the methods were tough enough.”…CIA documentation reportedly reveals…because ‘…she had not been personally briefed about it – only her aide had been told…’ the Speaker did not officially object…If the Speaker’s case was not already hard enough for the Democratic Leadership to defend…

On April 23rd Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), stated “We were not, I repeat, we were not told that Water Boarding or any other of these enhanced interrogation methods were used.”…On May 12th Representative Steny Hoyer (Md-D), the House Majority Leader, publically agreed that Congressional investigations concerning “Enhanced Interrogation Methods” should include an investigation as to what the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (CA-D), did or did not know…Hoyer stated “I think the Republicans are simply trying to distract the American public with who knew what…”…Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnel (Ky-R) stated “If this is an inquiry we must have, everybody who was involved in it…Senator John McCain…Senate Hearings begin…Meanwhile the Speaker…

Senator John McCain’s amendment, designed to strip 8500 earmarks from the $410 Billion Congressional Spending Bill (also known as the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009), failed to pass receiving a vote 63 against to 32 for…The White House has publically stated, even with some Democrats calling for a veto, that the bill is old business, was negotiated and agreed on last year and therefore out of their sphere and will not be vetoed by President Obama. Critics have pointed out that…promised to eliminate earmarks and wasteful spending…
