Editorial: Haiti vs. Obama Care – A Debate within the Democratic Party?

Are there really Democrats who would choose Obama-Care over helping those in Haiti?  Will they cause a riff in the Democratic Party if Health Care Reform fails to pass? Earlier this week I found myself web surfing and came across the Internet broadcast of a Talk Radio show with what appeared to be a slight liberal bias (to say the least). The topic of the hour, as might be expected, was ‘Obama’s swift response to the tragedy in Haiti.’ Out of curiosity I listened for a few minutes but quickly grew tired of the comparisons between Obama’s response and Bush’s (to Katrina). One listener after another called in… However just as I was about type in a new URL something caught my attention. A caller had asked a question I had not expected to hear… “Why is President Obama committing millions to help yet another nation when we can’t even pay for Health Care for our own people? Shouldn’t we focus on America first?”…Now of course, not being Harry Reid, I have no way…

Reid, hurt by Republican accusations he wanted to cancel voting to attend fundraiser, video On Thursday, the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada), denounced what he felt were Republican party efforts to use the Congressional chamber floor in an effort to “embarrass or denigrate” by accusing him of attempting to cancel weekend voting so that he would be able to attend a fundraiser. The Majority Leader spoke in a manor meant to present himself as above the frey of politics and truly shocked by the startling accusations.
