US deploys missile defense system to Hawaii incase of North Korean barage of missles on July 4th On Thursday, Defense Secretary Robert Gates acknowledged that he has authorized the deployment of THAAD (Theatre High Altitude Area Defense) missile defense weaponry to the state of Hawaii and the activation of ground-based defenses in Alaska. This in response to reports that the Japanese Defense Ministry believes the North Korean military maybe preparing to launch a ‘barrage’ of two or three-stage missiles toward Okinawa, Guam or the Hawaiian Islands on or around July 4th – as it attempted to do in July 2006 with 7 Taepodong-2 missiles.

Editorial: The Democrat’s Shift on China – Loans Trump Human Rights?

The Obama Administration - Putting money over human rights when it comes to China On this date in 1989 the Chinese military was ordered to conduct an assault on pro-democracy student demonstrators in Tianamen Square. The actual number of Chinese citizens injured, killed or arrested is unclear to this day. In the United States, the Democratic party has self declared itself as the party of Human Rights. Whether it is investigating who approved of the use of Enhanced Interrogation Techniques, calling for the end of Camp Gitmo or vocally condemning nations for their poor record on human rights.

On China in particular, the Democratic leadership criticized both President Bush Sr. and President George W. Bush’s Adminstrations for placing economic policy over human rights. So when President Obama was elected, many on the left assumed that he would follow in the footsteps of Former President Jimmy Carter and place Human Rights as a top priority of his Administration and therefore U.S. foreign policy.
