100 Days

President Obama was sworn into office on Jan 20th, 2009. During the election Mr. Obama promised a government ran by the most intelligent, professional, ethical minds in America. He promised a transparent government that was Bipartisan and Fiscally Responsible. As the President completes his first 100 days, we have to ask… What happened?

January

Prior to inauguration

- President-Elect Obama selects Leon Penetta to head CIA

- President Obama’s first choice Commerce Secretary withdraws his name, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson. Republican Judd Gregg later will also withdraw his name from the process.

- President-Elect Obama abandons fight for Campaign Promised $3,000 tax credit for businesses to hire new employees.

- During confirmation hearings, Hilary Clinton leaks that Obama Administration will remove travel restrictions on Cuba without requiring something from Cuba in return.

Jan 9: President-Elect Obama does not officially comment, even after his inauguration, on Russian Law to remove right for trial by jury in some cases.

Jan. 16: (4 days before the Presidential Inauguration) The Senate, per then President-Elect Obama’s request, releases the remaining $350 Billion bailout fund. Moving forward, this amount is categorized as Federal Debt inherited by President Obama from President George Bush.

First 100 Days Begins…

Jan. 20: President Obama is sworn in amidst criticism for out spending any other President in U.S. history for his inauguration ($160 million, 5 times Bill Clinton’s and $116.8 million more than George W. Bush’s) during what he described as the worst economy since the Great Depression.

Jan. 20: President Obama was sworn in for a second time in a secret ceremony leaving many asking where his commitment to a Transparent Government went.

Jan. 22: Signs order to close or shut down Guantanamo Bay Detention Center located in Cuba.

Jan. 23: Removes “Mexico City Policy” (Originally created under President Reagan) which banned providing Federal funds to International Organizations which provided information on and/or perform abortions.

February

Feb. 3: After Senate Majority Tom Daschle is forced to withdraw from confirmation process for Health and Human Services Secretary, President Obama admits he “screwed up.” Critics note this was only one of multiple nominees who have “missed” paying their taxes.

 

Feb. 4: President Obama signs bill expanding State Children’s Health Insurance Program to 4 million uninsured children. Critics point out that Bush’s veto was for specific reasons.

Feb. 12: Republican Judd Gregg decides to withdraw from the nomination process for Commerce Secretary stating policy disagreements as the reason.

 

Feb. 17: Signs Stimulus Bill (Also known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act or Spendulus Bill), his landmark $787 billion stimulus plan.

Feb. 17: President Obama announces the deployment of Army and Marine reinforcements to the nation of Afghanistan.

Feb. 18: Obama’s Administration announces a plan costing $75 billion to help homeowners at risk of losing their homes. Critics state it rewards those who should have never received a mortgage in the first place.

 

Feb. 24: President Obama delivers his first speech to a joint session of Congress.

 

Feb. 25: Third time is the charm? – President Obama nominates Democratic Governor Gary Locke for Commerce Secretary after Republican Judd Gregg and Democratic Governor Bill Richardson both withdraw their names.

Feb. 26: Details of President Obama’s $3.6 Trillion reach the press.

 

Feb. 27: Several Months after President Bush negotiates US Troop withdrawal, President Obama announces he will end the U.S. combat missions in Iraq by Aug. 31, 2010.

 

Feb. 28: President Obama nominates Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius for Health and Human Services Secretary. At first supporters criticize Obama critics for immediately ask “Tax Issues Again?”

March

March 1: President Obama greets British Prime Minister Gordon Brown as he visits D.C. for three days. British press later release that Obama’s gifts were considered insulting compared to those provided to the Obama family. Among the issues include a collection of DVD’s presented to the PM, who is not a big movie fan, that turnout not be formatted for European DVD players.

 

March 7: Hillary Clinton presents Russian counterpart with misspelled gift in the wrong alphabet

 

March 9: President Obama removes President George W. Bush’s ban on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

March 11: President Obama signs the Omnibus Spending bill without requesting the removal of +8500 earmarks.

 

March 12: President Obama Promises Earmark Reform

 

March 30: President Obama signs law to protect +2 million acres of wilderness across nine states.

 

March 30: Obama’s Administration removes CEO of GM, provides deadline to GM and Chrysler to provide restructuring plan to the Government.

 

March 31: President Obama arrives for G-20 Summit in London to be followed by tour of Europe and the Middle East. Observers criticize overly apologetic comments.

 

April

April 2: House votes to approve President Obama’s $3+ Trillion Federal Budget

April 5: President Obama publically promises to pursue a nuclear-free future in Europe on the same day North Korea launches a long-range rocket.

April 6: President Obama states on visit to Turkey that U.S. “is not and will never be at war with Islam…. The United States is not a Christian Country…” In Saudi Arabia the President is filmed bowing to the Saudi King. The Obama Administration denies it.

 

April 7: President Obama surprises U.S. troops with a visit to Iraq.

April 8: Obama Administration sends Defense Secretary Gates to present potential cuts to Congress.

 

April 8: President Obama breaks another campaign promise by requesting funding for the War outside the Federal Budget.

 

April 13: Obama Administration removes restrictions on travel and remittance to Cuba for American citizens with relatives in Cuba. Additional ban on Radio and TV broadcasts removed. Administration does not receive any tangible concessions in exchange from Cuba.

April 14: Obama Administration releases report from Homeland Security Department warning former members of the US Military may be recruited for domestic terrorism. Critics state report additional defines Right Wing Extremist in a manner that can include anyone who disagrees with the Administration.

 

April 15: Americans around the country participate in “Tea Parties” to protest excessive Federal Borrowing, Spending and expected Tax Increases. Majority of media down plays attendance and allows accusations of racism and other culturally objectionable comments to be presented about those participating. Media itself adopts crude sexual term to describe those participating.

April 16: Obama Administration swings back and forth as to whether President Obama will allow government prosecution of CIA and/or Bush officials who approved “Enhanced interrogation methods”

April 16: While in Mexico, outline of plans to assist Mexico combat drug violence are provided, however President states he will not attempt to reinstate assault weapons ban. Supporters on the left are reportedly not pleased with the decision.

April 17: President Obama attends the Summit of the Americas. Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez manages photo op with President Obama, including giving the President an anti-Capitalist book.

April 17: Under the Obama Administration, the EPA takes initial steps which allow it, Congress or the Administration to increase regulations on any industry responsible for producing carbon dioxide including Auto manufactures, Coal Burring Power Plants, etc.

April 21: Obama Administration states it will attempt to Stretch TARP funding by requesting banks to provide Common Stock as repayment. Critics on the right warn of Big Brother control over financial industry. Days later plans for the government to receive Common Stock in Auto industry are also announced.

 

April 27: Administration’s Photo Op scares New York public as it fly’s Air Force One at low altitudes and around the Statue of Liberty without warning public, New York City’s mayor or the Media. Actual cost of the “Joy Ride” has not yet been released. President Obama’s statement that he was unaware of the flight until after it was reported by the media raises eye brows and questions of how much control the President actually has on his own Administration’s actions.
