Stimulus Funding: Is this money well spent?

Agencies in the Federal Government are spending approximately $196 Million of Federal Stimulus funds an hour. At the same time, few if any of those same agencies have allocated greater than 1% of those funds toward the oversight of the distribution of Stimulus dollars. With the spending spree expected to continue until Sept 30th, 2010, some in Washington are starting to take notice.

Here are few examples of where some Stimulus money as already been spent (and the problem many Americans may see with this allocation)… You tell us, is this money well spent?

Why January’s 9.7% Unemployment Is Not Good News

Last week’s announcement that the national unemployment rate had dropped to 9.7% was quickly welcomed by many of the country’s top media outlets. To be frank, after an extended period of +10% unemployment and predictions that the rate would remain in the double digits for at least the next year or two, it’s hard not to understand why. However, if you read the fine print, this “drop” is not necessarily a step in the right economic direction.
Here are two reasons why… First…

Video: President Ronald Reagan, Happy 99th Birthday

Today would have been President Ronald Reagan’s 99th birthday. Much has been written about President Reagan and his dedication to the ideals of the “Shinning City on the Hill.” Along with then British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, President Reagan is rightfully credited with taking the actions required that eventually resulted in the end of the Cold War and the Collapse of the Soviet Union. President Reagan, in this writer’s opinion, will be remembered as one of America’s greatest Presidents.
What is perhaps not remembered as well, is Reagan’s love of jokes and good humorous attitude. With this in mind, on President Reagan’s birthday, we would like to celebrate with a couple of videos of jokes about the Soviet Union (often given to him from Soviet citizens and officials) as well as about himself and his political opponents…

A Look at President Obama’s 2011 Budget (and comparison to the 2009 Budget)

Last week President Obama concluded one year in office with his first State of the Union address. During his speech he emphasized the need for financial/budgetary restraint, he promised to examine every bill line by line and proposed a three year freeze on spending. Critics immediately pointed out the “freeze” was equal to 1% of the budget and that it would not begin until the 2012 fiscal year. President Obama justified this delay arguing the delay was needed to allow the economy to grow and called it budgeting.

This of course started us to wonder… What does a financially responsible budget designed to build economic growth actually look like in President Obama’s eyes?

As if to answer our question, on Monday President Obama released his proposed 2011 budget. The following…
